Lei’s work experience in undergrad project has given him the opportunity to learn about the mechanisms behind the use of organometallics as photocatalysts in a variety of reactions in longer timescales (ms-s). Yet he decides to transfer from synthetic organometallics to spectroscopic chemistry in grad school, driven by curiosity about how the photocatalyst interacting with light leads to the birth of radicals, which could be utilized in longer timescales. Transient absorption spectroscopy proves to be a perfect tool to understand the photophysics and unveil the ultrafast process in light-matter interactions, which is exactly why he joined Scholes group.
Nowadays managing to struggle very hard on getting rid of the claw of Bed “the Devil”, prospectively will beat it when new semester begins.
